i’ve got some shells from when i went to Florida and i was thinking of placing some in my tank which houses one betta fish. i’m worried about whether it will affect the water chemistry (or enough to worry) and cause harm to my betta. (also, as future reference for goldfish tank) since bettas need freshwater and the oceans are obviously salt water….but if i rinsed the shells thoroughly it should be fine right?…or would it affect pH? I recently purchased an aquarium from somebody that was using it as a saltwater aquarium. It is very dirty and has salt caked all over it. I need to clean off all the algae and salt. Do I just use water and a scrubber or is there more to it? I read somewhere to use vinegar, anyone ever heard of this? Also what is a protein scimmer? The tank came with all types of stuff that I’m not familiar with. Can I keep any of the decor that was in the tank if I rinse it off? Thanks for any advice you can give.
I already have 5 fancy tailed goldfish and 2 small catfish in my other tank that I plan on transferring into this tank. The decor is mostly rocks and fake plants. I removed all of the old gravel because I want to use the rocks that I had in my old tank.
It came with 2 filters a dual bio-wheel and the the one that uses rocks with charcoal. I was planning on keeping the filters and replacing what I can with new stuff. Or can I clean the pads and wheels as well as the casing?

I am getting a freshwater fish and want to know what kind is the best. i’ve already had basic fish like guppies, goldfish, neon fish etc and am thinking about getting one fish that is over 3 and a half inches but less than 7. I also like tropical types if fish. Any ideas or favorites pleas let me know.

I have a 30 gallon freshwater fish tank, 3 fish, 2 goldfish and 1 suckerfish, they get along great, what other fish do you reccomend me getting, i tend to want medium sized fish, but not to aggresive, any advise would be great! =)

Ok the fish kind of looked like a Bala Shark. However, it had a transparent (you could see through it somewhat) look to it and had a somewhat of a violet color to it. I had it in a fish tank full of goldfish, it lived quite long and it got big but it died when it jumped and injured itself.
Thanks for the details but the fish was not Bala since it did not have a silverish color.
