   by my calculations, you have a tank that can hold approximately 21.3 gallons, but u probably have a 20 gallon long tank that can sometimes be used for breeding fish or just for fish that need more room to swim. It would be ideal for a turtle because it has a larger surface on the bottom of the tank for it to walk around on and because you don’t need the whole thing filled with water it will work fine. i would say with a turtle u should put about 5-10 gallons in the tank depending on how tall the rocks you are putting in it for the turtle to sit on when its not in the water… good luck with your turtle!!

   I would remeasure your aquarium because a 6′ tank is normal for a large number of standard sizes though I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 6′ tank that had a depth (front to back) of 9 inches or 7.5 inches. I have a 6′ that is only 1′ deep though most of my 6 footers are 18″ or 24″ in depth.

   If your tank is 6′ x 1′ and 7.5″ water height then you have 28 gallons in your aquarium.
