Can I use old Lego toys as houses for my baby fish in the aquarium?
MissWorld asked:
is there anything toxic or something wrong with legos that i should not put them in my aquarium? please someone tell me its bad before i do. It seems like such an obvious thing to use and ive never seen it done before so i would like to know why if i cant. ive looked for hours and found no answer.

The paint itself could be toxic along with all the other things it has ever touched in its life. I wouldn’t recommend using them.

Good question. I would say yes, they’re safe for children…but with all these new recalls coming out about kid’s toys, not so sure anymore. As far as anything being on them, you could easily rinse them off. But for the materials they’re made of, I don’t know. I’ve used other plastic stuff in my tanks for hidey holes and such with no “adverse effects”. Honestly, I would say if you rinsed them good, they should be ok. Will they stay on the bottom, or will they float?

im pretty sure there isnt anything toxic in them, i mean they’re safe for kid. but look on a box of legos and see if it says non-toxic anywhere

I’d say yes, but legos float…. usually. Also, might I suggest a few live plants for them? Like java moss. They would like it more than the legos

wow that is a awesome idea not sure if the paint they use can deteriorate and release toxins in the water but i dont think is should. Let me know if you do it and it goes well after sometime being in the tank cause i may steal the idea if it works out haha

They should be fine in the water. Just to make sure that they sink, put some of them together under water, therefor some water gets between the connectors and not air. They aren’t painted, but it’s just a dye in the plastic when they were molded. Rinse them off really well in warm water, and you should be good. If you really want to make sure they sink, try building it on a big flat piece, and then you can just bury the bottom of it and place gravel on top of it.
