sjrockey asked: Hello,
I have a 5 gallon poly hex tank. It is my first time having fish. I am doing this as a 4-H project. The tnak has been set up for 3 weeks. I actually put two mollies in a couple weeks ago, but they did not do well. Tank had not cycled correctly and too much nitrogen…
I am going to wait until the tank has been set up a month before I put other fish in the tank.
Anyway, what fish do you suggest?
Thanks,
rrockey

I’ve had a 16 gallon tank for about 4 years now and some of my original fish have finally begun to die off :[ If you have any suggestions of hopefully non-aggressive fish that you’ve had great success with please let me know!
I currently have two tiny algae eaters, this weird eel thing that always hides, three tiny schooling fish (not barbs, but smaller) and a snail.

I don’t know what filters or air pumps I need to maintain a freshwater aquarium. I want to do as little maintenance as possible. Biological, mechanical, chemical filters????? Could you give me a specific example of which ones (with brand names) to get that work together well in keeping the water clean and clear?? I understand the temperature and the nitrification and ph and all that, I just don’t know what filters and pumps to use. It is a 20 gallon tank.

Mine has to be Perch. I think they are the best looking fish and they give a great fight when you hook into them, especially anything over 2lb. If you have every caught a big perch over 2lb, you’ll know what I mean. What is your favourite freshwater fish?

I have a 55 gal freshwater African Cichlid Tank with one Pleco. The Pleco eats lots of Algae thus he creates a lot of poop and it is really making the tank look disgusting. Are there any fish or invertebrates that will eat the poop as part of its diet?

I would like a list of pretty freshwater fish that don’t get too big. (Maximum 4 inches) Just wondering. You don’t need to know aquarium size or anything, I just want to know what’s out there! Thanks!

I’m moving from southern California to Las Vegas and I have freshwater fish. Oscars and a community tank . I’ve heard that water softeners are ok to use if you use magnesium instead of salt and replace the removed minerals and adjust the ph back to neutral. Is that true, or will the fish be better off with straight untreated water from the tap?
