freshwater fish
jakeyj asked:

I catch quite a few freshwater fish large enough to eat .
How do i get rid of the earthy taste?
And does anyone have any good recipes for perch etc?

  1. try lemon. the citrus acids may overwhelm the “earthy” taste

  2. You don’t want to rid the fish of its earthy taste..than the fish will be tastless..In fact you may want to research the waters you harvest these fish from..for instance a fish that is harvest from a lake in the hot summer months will taste like the lake it came from, conversely if you harvest a fish from a lake just after ice out the fish will have more of a cleaner crisp flavor because it purged itself during the colder months….or you may soak your fish in milk for a couple hours, that MAY reduce the earthy taste

    Poor Mans Shrimp (Perch)

    Fillet the perch
cut strips against the grain of the fish
deep fry them, they will curl up like shrimp..mighty tasty

  3. Well where I was raised(La.) this is what we do.Take the perch and dress.then slice across the body about 3 times,on each side.Put them in a large bowl, then sprinkle some salt and garlic powder on them. Now squirt some mustard on them and mix them up.Mix corn meal with flour to bread them in.Bread and deep fry–whole. They will float when they are done.Eat slowly and enjoy.I like to crunch on the tail fins when they are fried crispy…
