What kind of Colorful freshwater Fish should I get that are pretty like Saltwater fish?

freshwater fish
moyaalysia asked:

I love the Ne-mo looking fish and the all Yellow (I think the name is Tang). The problem is I don’t think I can keep up with a saltwater fish tank. I want the look of a saltwater tank with freshwater fish. What different kinds can I get and what other fish can they live together with (that is full of color)? Thanks in advance. (I am in Spring Hill, Fl)

  1. I myself would recommend tetras or glow fish. Tetras are nice looking and live well with other fish. Glow fish can be green, orange, yellow, etc. and also keep well with other fish. These two actually go well together while providing a beautiful look in an aquarium.

  2. I love these fish

  3. You can choose either a “community fish tank” or “chilid tank”.

For “community tank” you can keep livebearar such as guppy, swordtail, platy, molly, gouramy, betta(single male only) and also tetra such as neon or cardinal tetra. Some might mix them with barb such as tiger barb but make sure keep them in group of 4-5 to meke sure they don’t nipped their other tankmate as they will play with their own species.

Meanwhile if you choose to set up “cichlid tank” make sure you choose the species right and don’t mix the Lake Malawi with Lake Tanyayika together as they require different water condition and care.

    Important:
Choose your fish carefully and male surely their size are almost same as the bigger might bully their smaller tankmates.

Community fish tank are easy to maintain and chilid tank are more beautiful to watch .

Please choose the fish you which to keep based on the size of your tank and compatibility of the fish (aggressive or not) and if you are still not sure about the water condition of yhe fish you can ask some of the aquarium fish seller because “some” of them are professional.

Hope my advise may get you started on your aquarium.

    Good Luck :)

  4. Cichlids are brightly colored and most are very hardy and easy to keep. They do require a large tank though, so I wouldn’t even consider it unless you are going to be keeping them in at least a 55. For smaller tanks a school (6 or more, but the more the better) of tetras are great.

Also Dwarf Gouramis are very colorful, and many people like fancy guppies, which are easy to care for, don’t require alot of space, and the males have nice looking tails. Keep in mind that if you are going to keep guppies you need to have at least 2 but preferable 3 females to every male, otherwise the male will attempt to over breed with the females and they will become stressed and die.

Don’t forget, high quality food and lighting can make even a dull colored fish look vibrant!

  5. It depends on the size of your tank of course, but I suggest African cichlids. They are every bit as brilliant as marine tropicals, and overcrowding a tank is best with them. For example 20 in a 55 gallon tank is not too many if excellent filtration and aeration is provided, as well as weekly cleaning and partial water changes.
If you choose these, make sure the ones you get have similar temperaments, i.e., don’t place more aggressive fish with less aggressive fish.
If you like marine tropicals, you’ll love these guys.
Many will even spawn freely in your aquarium.

  6. If you want the very prettiest freshwater fish, then the hands down winners are Discus. But along with that comes a fish that is a much greater challenge to care for. If you aren’t up to or wanting a difficult species, then I recommend African Cichlids. Lake Malawi
Cichlids are beautiful, a lot of fun to watch, and very easy to care for. They are more tolerant of water conditions, and they actually do better when they are in large groups. But be sure to buy fish that are the same size and put them in the tank at the same time. Each fish will stake out its little territory and they will defend it aggresively. Definitely don’t put a peaceful species into the tank with them, because it won’t live long at all. Pleco’s do seem to do well with them. Also; they live on freshwater rock reefs in the wild, so they are best displayed in a tank with lots of rock work and no plants.

  7. take a look at african cichlids but your tank should be more than 30 gallons

  8. I personally love these fish:

    Flame dwarf gourami
Pretty much any of the discuses are verry colorful -But semi-agressive and agressive at times
Guentheri Killfish- mine took awhile to gain their color
    Platies, mollies, and swordtails..
and male guppies only- or else your tank will be crazily over stocked because of the guppies mating

    I know theres much more
    but these are my favs
