anspaughnato asked: I just bought 3 black phantom tetras today, and I am new to the whole aquarium thing.
I have a 10 gallon tank, and I was wondering if I should use floating flakes or sinking pellets?
And also, do fish tend to not eat for the first few days?
Any help is appreciated!

I have a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium. I currently have a male betta and a female balloon molly. I started with 3 balloon mollies and then after the tank was fully cycled I added the betta, who killed off 2 of the 3 mollies. He seems to be fine with the one surviving molly (who is quite aggressive herself) They have been living together peacefully for 2 weeks now. I would like to add a few more fish, but I don’t want to overcrowd. I have tried numerous ghost shrimp but they die very quickly and I cannot find any other type of shrimp in the local pet stores. Does anyone have any recommendations? I don’t want to take the betta out of the tank.

it would be helpful if you could list some freshwater fish that don’t eat the aquatic plants in your tank, or the plants that werent eaten.

punchy333 asked: The pH has been 8.4 for a couple weeks. I’m gradually reducing the temperature every day to get it down to 75 degrees (from 80.) Both factors are causing the remaining amount of ammonia (that I’m treating with water changes) to become more and more toxic, so this is not about adding more fish and adjusting for them. I really don’t want to use chemicals unless I have to. Thank you.

KH……….
Bear with me… I’m using test strips instead of the liquid drop tests. So Alkalinity is 120. (I’m guessing KH is the same thing?)

I was thinking of having some fish and bamboo added to my office. Are small freshwater fish compatible with the “lucky bamboo” that one can buy from the store if both were placed in a decent sized vase or other glass container?

I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank with an assortment of mollies, guppies, and platys. I currently have standard Wal-Mart issue aquarium gravel on the bottom. Is there any benefit to sand? I want to diversify my fish varieties and have read that some of the more exotic fish like a sandy bottom for scavenging or hiding? Any thoughts?
