  1. If you want an easy aquarium that doesn’t require a heater than get a 30 gallon tank and put some fancy gold fish in it.

If you want a heater tank then look into cichlids, angelfish, or gouramis.

Just remember that fish need at least 1 gallon per inch of length of fish.

You will also need to cycle you tank here is some information:

if you don’t cycle your tank first or have a heater to keep it at a proper temp your fish will die quickly.

  2. cichlids are my favorite…..oscar fish…tiger oscars, albino oscars…
    my fave…..some large goldfish…??

  3. 6 in. can hardly be called big lol , with fish too. : ) Depends on the tank size but i would go with some kinda gouramis or maybe some smaller cichlids.

  4. well that depends, is this your first tank? How big is the tank going to be? those are 2 major factors, if this is your first tank I wouldnt recommend any cichlids; like the 1st person said goldfish will probably be your best bet

  5. Angels & Discus are the most popular for gorgeous, graceful fish. However, I love Blood Parrot Fish. (You can get them at Petsmart) They start small and a gray brown and grown to be a good size and are bright solid orange. They have flowing fins and a great face that looks like a Parrot.

I love the fish but was offered $100 for the pair which laid eggs together so I sold them since I was young. Then, I got angels, then discus but they were not as fun. Plus, Parrots are easy to take care of and aren’t as sensitive since they are ciclids.

    Hope that helps.

  6. I have a pair of Jack Dempsey’s and they are very pretty and he is big.

  7. Ok first lets look at the tank size. With the dimensions given that would mean its a custom tank. For a size chart hit this link:. Now I am going to assume that is is a tank that is over 100 Gallons in size and with a tank of that size you can start getting into some true tank-busters. One of my personal favourites, yet never owned one due to size constraints, is the Arrowana. They get to be about 3 feet in length maybe a bit bigger say 4 feet depending on conditions. They are in this months issue of FAMA available at your local Chapters outlet. Other tank-busters include the Oscar, some Cichlids from Lake Malawi, some south and Central american Cichlids and non-cichlids like the Pacu and Silver Dollar.

I will say this though if this is indeed your first tank, please please please talk to the local fish club or fish store and not the big box outlets like Petsmart (they usually don’t have a clue) and get a lot more information on the various fish that are available. Read the available books, talk to the “experts” in your area or online at this website:.

  8. 37 gallons, I think… Can’t fit anything TOO big in there, but you have a good deal to work with. If you’re willing to go brackish, you can do puffers. A couple of African Clawed Frogs would work, or you could do some oddballs like the Upside Down Catfish or Bristlenose Pleco. They don’t get overly big, but they aren’t tiny like Neons.

Don’t forget to cycle your tank!

  9. Piranhas get a foot long and need to be kept in groups. Puffers are more difficult to keep than most fish and usually require brackish water if they are called freshwater fish. Oscars get way too big for a 55 gallon tank. That’s how big your tank is. The 1inch per gallon rule is crap. You can’t keep a 55 inch fish in a 55 gallon tank. Just stick to two 6 inch fish like you said. Discus are for advanced aquarists. Firemouth cichlids are really pretty.
