How to treat algae bloom in freshwater aquarium?
Gina asked:
About 3 weeks ago there was an algae bloom in my aquarium. It’s so dark I can’t see the fish. I tried changing half of the water and putting Jungle algae tablets in, but it didn’t work. The tank is near a window so I think it’s because of the sunlight. How can I get the water clear again?

I wouldn’t use chemicals.
Limit lights, and do 15% water changes every few days, and limit feedings.

I would say just go to the pet shop and pick up a snail for a buck… or put your fish in a different bowl and clean out the cage, but make sure that if you clean it with soap , to mak e sure that you get all the soap out or it will kill the fish when you put them back in.
Good luck..

It will be the sunlight.
You have to either move the tank or shade it somehow.
Been there, done that, had to move the tank.

Too much natural sunlight and invest in a UV light this will kill free floating algae and this will clear up the water.

Limiting feedings, light and doing water changes are typical. But you can also try lowering your pH depending on what type of fish and substrate you have. Also add driftwood, this will also help to lower the pH. Buy an algae eater!

For a quick, cheap fix cover your tank in a dark towel, making sure it’s completely dark. Keep the towel on for 3 days and your algae should disappear. It won’t hurt any plants or fish to stay in the dark and any live plants should bounce right back. Other than that, yep you’ll have to limit the light from the window or move the tank, or else your algae bloom will just come back. Goodluck!

You need to move your tank away from the window. In the mean time, do a 10 ~ 15% water change daily until the condition get better.
Hope this help
