What does a needle nose freshwater fish eat?

freshwater fish
Jennifer K asked:

I was told by the pet store to feed my new needle nose fish frozen shrimp brine. I have tried that and frozen bloodworms. He likes them but he is soooo shy that the other fish eat it all up before he does. How can I get him to eat? The frozen brine does not stay a float for him long enough.

  1. why don’t you just put him alone until he gets use to eating and then put him back with the other fish. my turtles don’t eat either but i put them alone and walla they started eating

  2. guppies and other similar small “live” fish. Though I would not put them in with other fish that you tend to keep. They like their food alive upon consumption.

  3. What the hell

  4. Live baby guppies or mollies would be a good choice, as would live mosquito larvae. Those can be a challenge to feed because thay are so shy as you have noticed. Before long he should get a bit more bold at feeding time and the problem will solve itself however, you can try feeding the tank away from where he is and also very near him just a few seconds later and basically distract the other fish with food on the other end of the tank.

  5. well i have a flordia gar which is similar to the fresh water needle fish.

They need live foods, unless you add a huge chunk of frozen food and clean the bottom of the tank after.
