did you want fresh or salt water? lots of small fish or a few big fish?
in fresh water i like gouramis — pearls, honey sunsets, and dwarf flames all have a red/orange color you don’t get in any other fish.
african cichlids come in really bright yellows and oranges and blues and many people prefer them.

when you first start an aquarium, you should get some ’starter’ fish. these are inexpensive fish that will give the tank the right balance of nitrogen/oxygen etc. initially you should only get 2 or 3 fish to get the tank working properly, or you could get 10 or so neon tetras. they are very small, colorful, inexpensive, and may school if they have enough room. check out the web site’ the age of aquariums’(below) for starting tips and pictures of 100’s of fish.

If you go with freshwater. Dwarf Gourami are pretty. You could also get a few Red Phantom tetra. And maybe 3 or 4 African dwarf frogs. It really all depends on You. What you like. I will Tell you that the frogs are really fun to watch. They live underwater all the time only swimming to top for air. But there so active and funny. And they also get a long with a lot of different kinds of fish. I will put a chart below that’s will tell you want fish can go with what fish. and than i will put a link about these frogs i am talking about.
