Title for an essay about setting up a freshwater aquarium, Help?
Amanda asked:
I need help with naming my essay. I did a descriptive, step-by-step essay about setting up a freshwater aquarium, including the process of the nitrogen cycle. Now all I have left is a title and I’m stumped! I need lots and lots of suggestions!! =)

Another thing, the essay is supposed to be about describing something that looks easy to do, but it all reality, is very hard! Like most people just put water in and you get fish. Well, they don’t realize about the nitrogen cycle or anything like that, that it is hard work.
I’ve thought about titles like, “if i knew then what i know now” or “you don’t know what you don’t know” or “fish aren’t supposed ot be this difficult!” .. but they’re just too long, i want something short and to the point.

I like the title “The Handyman’s Aquarium.” May sound a little corny and obvious but it works. Essays don’t have to be too hard. Good luck!

How about: “How to set-up a freshwater aquarium”? lol, okay, I’m guessing you want something a little more clever than that.
How about something liiiike…
“Taking the plunge.” or “Fill ‘er up and…” or “There’s more to it than just water” or “If I were a goldfish” and then underneath in smaller text “this is how I would want my home”.
That’s the best I can come up with. Anyone else?

“how to set up a freshwater aquarium”
“simple steps to giving your freshwater fish the home of it’s dreams”
“the freshwater aquarium:a step-by-step guide to make it work”
lol, i love coming up with cheesey, melodramatic titles for essays.

I like Zoe’s “There’s more to it than just water”. Maybe you could call it “Freshwater Fish: You Need More than Just Water”

How about
“Don’t just add water”
“There’s more than one way to Rope a fish”
“Water, Water everywhere”
“Get out of the goldfish bowl please”
“Let’s get tanked (Ok that one might not go over really well, but it is funny!) or “Let’s get tanked together!”
“tanked fish”
ok I’ll try to think of more.

Interesting coincidence. While in college in a creative writing class, I selected tropical fish as the topic for a few essays.
:the first was a description about how to set up an aquarium
for the red-bellied piranha. It was 3-4 pages and titled:
‘An Environment for the Piranha Peaceful’.
:the second was description/comparison about odd types
of fish in this hobby, ie: mudskippers vs leaf fish vs archer
fish vs blind cave fish; titled: ‘Aquarium Community of
Oddball Fishes’.
These were not the real titles-I can’t remember exactly-
but might help your imagination…(ie, peaceful vs piranha)!
Yes, it is frustrating when one writes a good piece but
is blocked
for a title. Rest your mind for awhile, take a walk and soon
a lightbulb may light up in your head. It wouldn’t surprise
me if you come up with a real catchy title.
Whenever Ben Franklin was stumped for an idea or solution,
he always got his mind off the subject-even to the point of
napping at a picnic…of all places. But it worked!
