What are good freshwater fish to house in a 30 gallon tank with Neon Tetras?
Nick asked:
Looking to add more small fish, can I house more tetras, if so what species are compatible. I like the look of the black neon tetras and glofish. Anyone have firsthand experience?

Any of the other tetras can be in with the neons. Or zebra danios, barbs, platys.

ask a pet store they can tell you way more then any one on here

they are compatible with any tetra excepts big ones like buenos aries or other agressive ones
when your buying them just ask if its an agressive fish
i would say get serpae tetras i think they look very good with or without neons around it, and they school closely giving a very nice look to the tank and you could add quite a few in a 30 gallon
hope its helpful:]

‘iminlove’: i should think NOT.
a school of rummynose tetras look stunning hearding around the tank! you could also try harlequin rasboras, black neon tetras and glofish are also options. i will list a few other fish you may be interested in (note they are not all compatible):
silvertip tetras
penguin tetras
beacon/head-and-tail-light tetras
charry barbs
tiger barbs
various killiefish
zebra danios
leopard danios
white cloud mountain minnows
siamese fighting fish/betta fish
pearl gourami (tank size may or may not be an issue)
honey gourami
dwarf gourami
neon-red dwarf gourami
neon-blue dwarf gourami
sparkling gourami
corydoras catfish
khulie loaches
bumble-bee goby
hatchetfish
fancy guppies (male only/female only)
endlers (male only or female only)
platy (once again, all males or all females, no mixing the geners unless you want many, many baby fish on your hands)
swordtail (m/f only)
molly (m/f only)
and just a few to avoid, for various reasons:
angelfish
discus
goldfish
large fish
aggressive fish
common plecos
bala sharks
paradise fish
many/most/all cichlids
dojo/weather loach
kribensis
always research before buying any fish. they could grow too big/eat them, grow too big for your tank, have difference water parameter preferences (eg ph, temp), be too agressive, too dirty, have different feeding habits etc.
good luck!!!

Corydoras catfish is a good companion. they are peaceful catfishes that will even help clean the tank and because they primarilly live in the bottom part of the aquarium, they would cause minimal effects on your neons. Keep a shoal of 5 or more for them to truly show their beauty.
